(Washington, D.C. – April 18, 2018) The International Dairy Foods Association issued the following statement by Michael Dykes, D.V.M., IDFA president and CEO, regarding the House Agriculture Committee’s approval of H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018.

“The International Dairy Foods Association thanks House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway, R-Texas, and members of his committee for approving a farm bill that includes key provisions for dairy. IDFA represents the nation’s dairy manufacturing and marketing industry, which supports nearly 3 million jobs, generates more than $39 billion in direct wages and has an overall economic impact of more than $200 billion.

“IDFA worked closely with colleagues at the National Milk Producers Federation to unite behind shared solutions for dairy that are reflected in the farm bill that was approved by the Committee earlier today.

“We’re hopeful that our collaborative efforts will help to smooth the ultimate enactment of a farm bill that offers enhanced risk management options for dairy processors and producers and establishes a retailer incentive program in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, that includes fluid milk.

“IDFA’s members are committed to ensuring that members of Congress understand the importance of these provisions to the nearly 3 million Americans in jobs supported by the dairy industry and to the overall health of the U.S. economy.”
