State Advocacy

Across the country, state policymakers are increasingly advancing food, nutrition, and agriculture policies that create a complex patchwork of laws and regulations, spanning the gamut—from food additive bans and warning labels to SNAP restrictions and extended producer responsibility and recycling mandates.  These policies, if not structured appropriately, could directly affect the ability of the U.S. dairy industry to provide Americans with affordable, nutritious, and innovative dairy products.

To safeguard dairy’s future, IDFA closely monitors state legislative and regulatory efforts and works proactively with its members, state dairy associations, and partners across retail, food manufacturing, agriculture, and government. Together, we help policymakers understand how state actions impact consumers, communities, and dairy businesses operating in their states.

IDFA’s state-level advocacy program ensures that dairy has a strong, coordinated voice when policy decisions could affect our workforce, operations, product innovation, and competitiveness. Explore IDFA’s state-level issue priorities below, and contact the IDFA team for more information on how to get involved.
