The Food and Drug Administration is seeking public comment on front-of-package labeling while it considers how to enhance point-of-purchase nutrition information for consumers. IDFA and its Nutrition Working Group have drafted comments stating that front-of-package labeling should be voluntary and that any point-of-purchase system should include a balance of nutrients to encourage as well as ones to avoid. The deadline for comment is July 28. Members not in the working group who would like to read the draft comments should contact Michelle Matto, IDFA's nutrition and labeling consultant, by Monday, July 26, at amfoodnutrition@gmail.com.
