IDFA joined with ConAgra, General Mills and the Schwan Food Company to weigh in with the Institute of Medicine (IOM) on future changes to nutritional standards for school lunch and breakfast programs. "Dairy's nutrient density is particularly important in school meals," testified Michelle Matto, IDFA's assistant director of nutrition and labeling. She urged the IOM to consider what is in food as much as what is not. "There is a balance that must be reached to keep nutrient-dense foods in schools, while keeping energy-dense but nutrient-poor foods out," said Matto. To read her recent testimony, click here.
