Editors working with American Public Health Association (APHA) Press have tapped John Allan, IDFA vice president of regulatory affairs and international standards, to serve on the Technical Committee that will direct the development of the 18th edition of the “Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products (SMEDP).” The committee, which will include experts from industry, academia and the government, will define the contents of the new edition and help select authors and peer reviewers for the various chapters.

Last updated in 2004, this publication is a compendium of validated microbiological, chemical and physical laboratory methods used to analyze dairy foods. It is used by a wide variety of industry professionals, researchers and government officials.

The objective of the book is to “provide a system for uniform testing of dairy products that will become a critical component of both government and industry analytical programs.” (SMEDP, 17th ed.)
