In an opinion piece posted last week by the "Capital Press," IDFA Vice President Ruth Saunders explained how the milk supply-control plan proposed by the National Milk Producers Federation would allow the government to regulate "base milk marketings" that are similar to quota systems in other countries. Saunders pointed to the recent Informa Economics study that finds quota systems currently in place in Canada and the European Union have not saved farms or added jobs.

"Going down the path of allowing the government to jump in and out of the milk supply creates tremendous uncertainty that will negatively affect investment and the flow of capital into dairy," Saunders said.
