Nick Donofrio

Compliance Assistance Specialist – Region 2 | U.S. Department of Labor / OSHA

Bringing more than two decades of chemical industry experience as a safety and health manager and PSM coordinator, Mr. Donofrio has worked for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the Buffalo Area office since 2005.  While in private industry, he was responsible for developing safety and health policies, procedures and programs to ensure worker safety, regulatory compliance and coordination of emergency response activities.  He was responsible for overseeing hazard identification and loss prevention activities at one of the largest organic peroxide manufactures in the country.

During the past 15 years as a Compliance Officer with OSHA, he has conducted more than 800 inspections and processed more than 650 safety and health related referrals.  His duties included performing safety inspections and accident investigations along with National and Local Emphasis Program compliance activities related to Machine Guarding, Process Safety Management and Combustible Dust Hazards.  He was a member of the OSHA Region 2 PSM inspection team at the world’s 10th largest oil refinery located in St. Croix, VI and was the lead investigator on an employer-contested case decided at the Circuit Court level, which upheld two Willful Citations.

Mr. Donofrio has received the Secretary of Labor’s Exceptional Achievement Award, a four-time recipient of the Secretary’s Honor Award for Worker Protection and presented the Region II Regional Administrator’s Strong Enforcement award three times.

Recently chosen to fill the positon of Compliance Assistance Specialist, for OSHA in Region 2, he will be conducting outreach, education, training, and relationship building to fulfill one of OSHA’s primary roles; compliance assistance.

He is a graduate of Fairmont State University and received his Master’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.
