The U.S. Senate last Thursday confirmed the appointment of Krysta Harden as the new deputy secretary of agriculture.

Harden has served as chief of staff for Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack since early 2011 and has worked with Congress on a range of agricultural issues.

Michael Scuse had been serving as acting deputy secretary since March, following Kathleen Merrigan’s departure.
