Carmine Catalana III, chairman of the board of Cumberland Dairy Inc., passed away on December 8 at the age of 81. Under his direction, Cumberland Dairy grew from a small, local dairy to one of the largest producers of specialty dairy products on the East Coast. Catalana also established the company as a pioneer in UHT processing of dairy products and a full-service distributor and dairy processor for McDonald’s.
His sons, Carmine Catalana IV, president (Milk Industry Foundation board member ); Frank Catalana, vice president of operations; and David Catalana, vice president of sales, are the third generation of the family to operate the 78-year-old company based in Rosenhayn, N.J.
