IDFA and several member companies hosted a fundraiser for Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., to honor his work on behalf of the agriculture industry. The members were Abbott Laboratories, General Mills, Inc., the Kraft Heinz Company, Schwan’s Company and Wells Enterprises, Inc.

Hoeven is chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee and is also a key member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. This year he was selected to serve as a member of the 2018 farm bill conference committee.

“Through two farm bills and as chairman of the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee Sen. Hoeven has been a critical leader for agriculture and dairy policy interests,” said Michael Dykes, D.V.M., IDFA president and CEO. “He truly understands the important role agriculture plays in the U.S. economy and in generating jobs for Americans.”

In addition to updates on the appropriations process and farm bill negotiations, Hoeven took questions from attendees about the 2018 midterm elections and international trade topics such the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
