More than a year ago, IDFA joined the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation (HWCF), a diverse coalition of companies and organizations dedicated to helping reduce childhood obesity. This month marks the one-year anniversary of HWCF’s Together Counts™ campaign, a public education effort that encourages families to share meals and activities together. Over the past year, HWCF began to recognize all of the ways the Together Counts program complements the Energy Balance 101 curriculum, a free, standards-based curriculum for teachers and school nurses they developed with Discovery Education. Each provides the tools needed to teach children the importance of a nutritious diet and regular physical activity, both at home and in schools. To further this integration, HWCF just launched a new and improved version of TogetherCounts.com. It's now a fully integrated website that serves as a one-stop-shop for anyone in need of resources, curriculum, tips or encouragement to take simple steps to become more active and healthy at home and school. As we continue to enjoy this beautiful spring weather, go to TogetherCounts.com and pledge to try something new each day. Join us in the HWCF community as we work to share the message of energy balance. And don’t forget your schools. In fact, in honor of National Physical Education and Sport Week (May 1-7), share Energy Balance 101 curriculum with schools in your area and make sure they have the tools needed to bring energy balance into the classroom.
