America tomorrow will celebrate National Farmers Day and the important work of the agriculture industry in communities across the nation.

Did you know that in addition to supporting 192,150 jobs in dairy farming, the U.S. dairy products industry helps support 87,700 farmers and other skilled workers in the overall U.S. farming economy?

Of these, about 73,000 are working for farms and agricultural businesses supplying dairy products producers with goods like fruits, corn or eggs. Many of these are also dual-purpose farms that have dairy cows in addition to other livestock.

The dairy industry also supports farmers when dairy employees and employees of supplier firms purchase agricultural products in grocery stores, farmers’ markets and other outlets.

All told, the dairy products industry creates nearly $21.6 billion in wages and $79.8 billion in economic impact for the American farming sector.

Dairy Delivers®

IDFA is taking these deep dives into the data of Dairy Delivers®, its economic impact tool, to demonstrate dairy’s economic power and its ripple effect on other American industries.

“These numbers illustrate a few of the many ways Dairy Delivers® quantifies the power and reach of American dairy product manufacturing,” said Dave Carlin, IDFA senior vice president of legislative affairs and economic policy. “In addition to calculating the effect dairy has on other industries, members can also use the interactive tool to show the number of jobs, wages, taxes and overall economic impact dairy products manufacturers have in their states and congressional districts.”
