Nutrition Facts Labeling Extension Request Letter Sent to FDA

Oct 01, 2019

As the January 1, 2020 Nutrition Label change deadline approaches IDFA understands that a number of member companies are faced with large amounts of obsolete packaging inventory.  IDFA listened to member concerns of the high costs, in the millions of dollars, for wasted packaging and took quick action.

IDFA worked with other food industry groups to get support from 11 food trade associations to send this request to FDA Commissioner Ned Sharpless asking for an additional 6 months’ time to complete nutrition facts label changes.

Although FDA may be reluctant to grant this request since they already provided an 18-month extension, IDFA is advocating for this action to top officials and hope we will prevail.
