IDFA continues to demonstrate that the dairy industry has a powerful economic impact – $628 billion in total – on the American economy. Did you know that dairy also indirectly supports a broad range of industries across the nation, like mining?

The mining industry is very broad, including products like oil and natural gas as well as fertilizers and cement. Dairy companies have to build or operate a wide range of facilities and sometimes use heating oil or natural gas in their production processes.

Dairy companies, distributors and retailers also support American miners. The dairy industry directly supports over 8,570 mining jobs throughout the country.

Another 4,590 mining jobs depend on spending by dairy industry employees or those of their suppliers for everything from new stone countertops and natural gas for cooking to sand for their children’s play areas.

All told, the dairy industry creates nearly $1.6 billion in wages and $6.9 billion in economic impact for the American mining industry.
