Washington Weekly is IDFA’s new update curating policy news from the nation’s capital. The update, which will be a standalone newsletter sent to members on Tuesdays, will provide news articles and insights from Washington, D.C., that are relevant to IDFA members. This week, members of Congress plan to pass a variety of measures before the House recesses in August; the United States and European Union make positive progress on trade; and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announces additional plans to support America’s rural communities.


Congress Prepares for August Recess

As the House prepares to recess in August, members of Congress are focused on passing several spending bills and wrapping up major legislation before the week’s end. The legislation would revamp spending packages for defense authorization and would expand and update health savings accounts. Read more about the push for legislation here.

EU Trade Truce

USDA Supports Rural Communities

In addition to the $12 billion in relief USDA announced Tuesday, the agency is leading an effort to invest in rural communities across the country. The investments will be made through the Community Facilities Direct Loan Program, which helps rural areas gain access or build essential facilities, such as libraries or healthcare facilities. Cell-Cultured Food Processing Regulations

USDA and the Food and Drug Administration are beginning to discuss jurisdiction over a new scientific technology, cell-cultured meat.
