“I am struck by how little people think about the implications of our farm policies,” said Connie Tipton, IDFA president and CEO, in the opening sentence of her latest Cheese Market News column.

Writing from the International Sweetener Colloquium held last month in Miami, Tipton noted that both the U.S. sugar program and the federal milk pricing system have outgrown their usefulness and are “in the way of markets working proficiently.”

She urged dairy leaders to agree on a phase-out plan for milk pricing and pooling provisions, opening the door to more market growth opportunities.
