The Sweetener Users Association, of which IDFA is a member, released a report last week that examines the economic impact of the antidumping and countervailing duty cases against Mexican sugar imports filed a year ago by U.S. sugar producers.

The report shows that American consumers and food companies have spent an additional $2.2 billion on sugar since the cases were filed.

“The likely final disposition of these trade cases is expected to cost consumers an extra $1 to $2 billion annually for years into the future, above and beyond the normal burden imposed by the U.S. sugar program,”  the report said.
