With the 2014 midterm elections less than a week away, Ashley Burch, IDFA director of political programs, is blogging daily on the Policy & Politics blog to keep members updated on news related to the upcoming elections, particularly those that will affect the fight for the Senate majority. Contrasted with the House, which has fewer and fewer seats that are actually competitive, the Senate is considered the main battleground this year.

“This election cycle is incredibly exciting, particularly in the Senate,” said Burch.  “The number of ‘toss-up’ races has grown to 10, which, along with the two races ‘leaning’ one way or the other, represent one- third of this cycle’s Senate races.  This is unparalleled in recent memory.”

There are so many close races, in fact, with significant implications for the 114th Congress that Burch has been attending frequent election briefings by respected political handicappers and tracking the latest polls on a daily basis.

IDFA encourages members to engage in the races in their states and know where the candidates stand on priority business and dairy issues by visiting www.dairycounts.org. Dairy Counts is an industry-wide effort hosted by IDFA to engage and educate member company executives and employees about the importance of political involvement on dairy policy issues.
