Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack this week announced the Recipes for Healthy Kids Challenge as a way to improve school meals and the health of children across the nation. The competition, part of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! Initiative, calls for new recipes from teams of chefs, students, foodservice professionals, parents and others working together to develop "tasty, nutritious, kid-approved foods."

The recipes must meet specific nutritional requirements, including limits on total calories from fat, saturated fat, sugar and sodium. Although the competition will focus on whole grains, dark green and orange vegetables, and dry beans and peas, the recipes may include dairy products. Read more here.
