IDFA and 22 other food industry and business groups sent a joint letter last Friday to the leaders of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee, asking them to reconsider a proposal to have industry fund federal food safety inspections. The letter to Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Ranking Member Joe Barton (R-TX) expressed concern about the inherent conflict of interest that the proposal would create and other provisions that would increase the cost of food without improving the safety of the country's food system.
