With the anniversary of D-Day just around the corner, IDFA checked the archives for a look back at the historical importance of milk during World War II and uncovered the “Wartime Milk Facts” from 1943.

Did you know that milk was “the leading wartime food?” It also notes that dairy processors worked hard to “meet the greatest demand for milk in history.”

We’re not sure why milk was “reported to counteract the toxic effect of munitions powder,” but it’s clear that the dairy industry has come a long way.
