New York Governor Andrew Cuomo held a "Yogurt Summit" last week to find ways to encourage more yogurt manufacturing in the state and to review regulations and laws that could hinder industry growth.

In an opinion piece published yesterday, IDFA applauded the governor's efforts but noted that the Farm Bill as currently written would have imposed a national program to reduce milk production at the same time New York wants growth and increased milk supplies.

IDFA urged the state's congressional delegation to support the Goodlatte-Scott amendment, a bipartisan compromise approach to dairy policy.
