Efforts by Coalition for Safe and Affordable Food Earn High Marks

Dec 21, 2016

The Hill, a publication covering congressional news, counted efforts by the Coalition for Safe and Affordable Food on GMO labeling as one of the top 10 lobbying victories of 2016.

As a member of the coalition, IDFA worked with members of Congress, as well as state and local food, agriculture and retail groups to support a uniform national standard for voluntary GMO labeling.

Congress passed the landmark agreement in July and President Barack Obama signed it into law the same month.

The law explicitly preempts state GMO labeling laws and directs the U.S. Department of Agriculture to establish the national standard.
