Senate Breaks Before Acting on Child Nutrition Bill

Jul 20, 2016

The Senate left last Thursday for its seven-week recess without taking action on the child nutrition reauthorization bill, which affects all federal feeding programs, including the school breakfast and lunch programs.

Authorization for federal child nutrition programs formally expired at the end of September 2015, but the existing programs continue to operate pending approval of the reauthorization bill.

IDFA and its members will continue efforts to encourage the Senate to take up the bill early in September.
