Proposed New York 'Obesity Tax' on Soft Drinks Touts Milk's Benefits

With a budget deficit in excess of $15 billion looming in New York state, a number of new fees have been proposed in lieu of an across-the-board tax hike. One proposal — referred to as the obesity tax — is being championed by Richard F. Daines, M.D., New York State's health commissioner. In an online video, Daines explains why more milk consumption and an 18 percent tax on sugar-based soda are good for kids' health.
