"The growth of class action suits has changed the risk paradigm," Elizabeth Fawell of Hogan Lovells LLC told listeners tuned in last week to IDFA's Dairy Product Labeling Webinar Series.

Fawell said many states have strong consumer protection laws that allow consumers to sue, and three areas have garnered heightened attention: healthfulness claims, standards of identity and natural claims. Most of the recent lawsuits have targeted natural claims, mainly because there's no consensus on what natural means, Fawell said.
