  • Emerging Science Shines New Nutritional Light on Cheese

    October 24, 2018
Dairy products are a source of nine essential nutrients in the American diet, and cheese is no exception, says Michelle Matto, IDFA’s nutrition and labeling consultant, in her new blog post. Although the Dietary Guidelines recommend that Americans switch to reduced-fat dairy options in lieu of cheese to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, an emerging body of science is challenging that recommendation. But finding those pockets of time for a family meal are very important for families and children. Children who eat three or more meals with their family per week are 24 percent more likely to have healthier eating habits. In addition to health benefits, family meals also build strong family ties and provide other social benefits. To support more family meals each week, the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) has designated September ... Read More

With the expansion in choices in the ice cream aisle, there is a flavor and nutrient profile for everyone to celebrate during National Ice Cream Month, according to Michelle Matto, R.D.N., IDFA’s nutrition and labeling consultant.
