US, China Agree to Informal Tariff Discussion

The United States and China agreed to sit down next month at the G-20 Summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to discuss the ongoing trade conflict between the two countries. These trade talks are the first since August. The negotiations stalled after President Trump imposed additional tariffs on more than $200 billion in Chinese imports and China retaliated by placing duties on $60 billion in American goods. Hurricane Michael Damages Southeast Farms

Hurricane Michael, which made landfall as a category four storm, swept through Georgia and Florida last week. Early reports include damage to buildings and farms in several agriculture industries, including some dairies in Georgia.

Senate Leaves the Capitol to Campaign for Midterm Elections

Eager to hit the campaign trail, Senate Democrats agreed to speed up the consideration of several judicial nominations last week so Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., would recess the Senate session earlier than planned. When the Senate comes back to Washington after this extended recess, they will have several priorities to manage, such as deciding on the future of the 2018 Farm Bill and passing government funding bills. Both the Senate and the House have a self-imposed deadline to complete these tasks by Dec. 7, and both chambers will be back in session on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Read more here.
