For many dairy companies, the federal standards of identity can be both a help and a hinderance.

These standards, which the Food and Drug Administration uses to identify distinct types of foods, can help companies define their products and offer consistency to consumers. The standards can also can prevent companies from adding innovative ingredients or changing these products to meet consumer demands.

IDFA’s Regulatory RoundUP, June 5-6 in Washington, D.C., will feature a session with Veronica Colas, senior associate at Hogan Lovells US LLP, on how FDA creates and enforces these standards and how dairy companies would be affected if FDA makes changes.
