The Chilean government this month initiated an investigation to determine if imports of whole dry milk, non-fat dry milk and gouda cheese represent a threat to Chile’s domestic dairy industry.

The United States is the largest exporter of non-fat dry milk to the country, representing 76 percent of Chile’s market share for the dairy ingredient. U.S. dairy companies exported more than $25 million worth of the non-fat dry milk last year to Chile.

IDFA expects investigators to release recommended provisional measures to the president of Chile this week.
