In a year rife with requests for regulatory reform, Stephen Ostroff, M.D., the deputy commissioner of food and veterinary medicine for the Food and Drug Administration, will provide “FDA Views from the Top” to IDFA members attending Regulatory RoundUP in June. As part of his keynote address, Ostroff is expected to provide an update on the Trump administration’s regulatory agenda and the agency’s progress toward regulatory reform.

Regulatory RoundUP will be held June 5-6 in Washington, D.C., and Ostroff will open the event at 12:30 p.m.on June 5.

24 Priorities for Dairy

In comments filed last month, IDFA urged the agency to modernize outdated standards of identity for dairy products, revise overly burdensome regulations under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and extend the compliance date for the revised Nutrition Facts label. IDFA listed a total of 24 priority areas for the dairy industry.

Dr. Ostroff likely will touch on several of these priority areas, and IDFA invites dairy professionals who attend to raise their questions about regulatory reform following the presentation.

“IDFA appreciates the opportunity to hear directly from Dr. Ostroff regarding the agency’s efforts to ease the regulatory burden that dairy foods manufacturers face,” said Emily R. Lyons, IDFA director of regulatory affairs and counsel, who oversees the program for Regulatory RoundUP. “We support the Trump administration’s goals to significantly reduce regulatory burdens while maintaining the product safety and integrity that consumers expect.”

In addition to a powerful keynote address, Regulatory RoundUP will feature the following sessions:

  • Nutrition Policy Changes: What Do the Experts Say?
  • Controlling Your Supply Chain: Meeting FSMA’s Requirements
  • National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard: Mandatory GMO Labeling is Here
  • Listeria and Listeriosis: Science, Risk and Policy
  • Rubber Meets the Road: Preventing Intentional Adulteration
  • Standards of Identity: Help and Hindrance
  • FDA Enforcement Update
