IDFA kicked off this year’s celebration of National Ice Cream Month by sponsoring an ice cream photo contest on Instagram and Twitter. We’re asking ice cream companies to encourage your fans and followers to participate in the contest. Those following us on Instagram @dairyidfa are invited to share photos that show how they are celebrating with the tag #icecreammonth. The photos with the most “likes” every Friday through July 31, 2013, will be the winners of free ice cream.

By participating in the second annual ice cream survey, several member companies shared special events and celebrations planned throughout July.

  • Pierre’s Ice Cream Company is saluting first responders with free treats on National Ice Cream Day;
  • Edy’s Grand Ice Cream/Nestle Dreyer’s Ice Cream Division is supporting Operation Smile; and
  • Wells Enterprises, Inc., maker of Blue Bunny ice cream, is helping to make100 kids' wishes come true.

IDFA is encouraging companies to share how they are celebrating National Ice Cream Month by posting information on our Facebook page, or tweeting us @dairyidfa using the hashtag #icecreammonth. IDFA will also be posting news releases and announcements from our companies on IDFA.org.

Some mainstream media outlets have also joined in the fun. “The Washington Post” ran a full-page color graphic on ice cream the day before Independence Day using material from IDFA’s ice cream media kit. Radio stations in Fargo, N.D.; Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and Frankfurt, K.Y. featured stories about National Ice Cream Month last week.
