The Farm Bill will be taken up by the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry on Tuesday, May 14, and the House Committee on Agriculture on Wednesday, May 15. IDFA expects that the Senate committee will discuss dairy during mark-up. On the House side, the compromise legislation, H.R. 1741, the Dairy Freedom Act, introduced by Representatives Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and David Scott (D-GA), will be offered as an amendment for consideration by the House committee.

“We are working closely with House and Senate committee staffers in advance of the mark ups, as well as with the many groups who have voiced their support for the Dairy Freedom Act and their opposition to milk supply management,” said Jerry Slominski, senior vice president of legislative and economic affairs.”

He added that members of the agriculture committees need to continue to hear from IDFA members in support of the Dairy Freedom Act, the bipartisan alternative to the Dairy Market Stabilization Program in the Dairy Security Act.
