The 3-A Sanitary Standards, Inc. (3-A SSI) board of directors met during the Worldwide Food Expo in Chicago to approve the 2010 budget, elect officers and review the new website, www.3-a.org. Board members also received progress reports on new training videos and the Third-Party Verification Manual.

All current officers were re-elected for a second one-year term. They are Chairman Dan Meyer, American Dairy Products Institute; Deputy Chair, Allen Sayler, IDFA (pictured); Treasurer and head of the Finance Committee Lou Beaudette, Admix, Inc.; and Secretary Ronald Schmidt, formerly with the Food Science & Human Nutrition department, University of Florida.

"IDFA would like to thank Greg Marconnet of Kraft Foods who has served on the 3-A SSI Board as an excellent dairy processor advocate since 2003 as both chair and treasurer. Because of term limits, he will leave the board at the end of the year," said Sayler "We also welcome Carl Buhl of Leprino Foods as the new IDFA representative and look forward to working with him in the coming year."

The board approved the 2010 budget of $550,000 and reviewed four new videos:

  • Essentials of Sanitary Design: The 3-A Format and Style Manual
  • The Certified Conformance Evaluator and the TPV Inspection Overview
  • Trust But Verify: The TPV Inspection for 3-A Symbol Authorization
  • Maintaining 3-A Symbol Integrity: Reporting Alleged Non-conformance

In addition, 3-A SSI is updating a previous video that will be reissued as "The 3-A Story - 3-A Sanitary Standards and the 3-A Symbol." All videos will be available by the end of this year.
