Start Your Engines with School Breakfast

Mar 05, 2019

We’ve all heard that “food is fuel.” For millions of students each day, school breakfast is the fuel for learning. Children who start their engines with breakfast at school are more alert and have better concentration and memory. This leads to higher achievement in reading and math. So school breakfast directly fuels education.

This week is National School Breakfast Week-- a celebration of the program that serves more than 14 million children every day and the people who make it possible. This year’s theme is “Start Your Engines with School Breakfast,” and the School Nutrition Association is encouraging school food service staff, parents and students to share the ways that school breakfast powers up their day.

School breakfast includes the power of dairy with milk, yogurt and cheese as important components. Together with the other nutritious foods required in a school breakfast, dairy products contribute to the healthy meals and full stomachs that so many kids need in the morning.

Using the hashtag #NSBW19, let’s share on social media how school breakfast can start engines.
