‘Lots 2 Love’ in School Lunch

Oct 08, 2018

Now that school has been back in session across most of the country, that means a month or two of eating lunch at school. For the kids and parents that are packing lunch each day, this could mean being stuck in “lunch-packing ruts” of adding the same few things to lunchbox every day.

But next week might be just the right time to break that rut, because there’s “Lots 2 Love” during the 2018 National School Lunch Week! The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) offers lots of options of entrées, fruits, veggies and milk.

Next week, October 15-19, 2018, is designated by Congress as National School Lunch Week to celebrate a program that serves 30 million children each school day. It provides nutritious meals to many students, including children from low income households who receive those meals for a low cost or even free of charge. Each year, the School Nutrition Association (SNA), the organization for school nutrition professionals, sets a theme for the week of celebration. This year, it’s “School Lunch: Lots 2 Love!”

Dairy products serve an important role in meals served through the NSLP. Cheese and yogurt can serve as protein sources in entrees and milk is required to be offered with every school lunch. And there are more options for the milk offered with school meals: non-fat and low-fat milk, both flavored and unflavored, may be served.

With millions of meals and millions of servings of nutritious dairy served each day, there’s Lots 2 Love about school lunch! Celebrate with IDFA on social media with the hashtags: #NSLW2018, #lots2love, and #schoollunchlove.
