Dairy Market Prices
There are a variety of sources which provide information on current and historical price levels of various dairy products. The two main sources of this data come from the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group (CME Group).
The Agricultural Marketing Service provides market commentary on dairy product prices for a wide array of products, both domestic and international. AMS Foreign-type cheese refers to the current market prices for various importable and domestically produced specialty cheeses.
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group (CME Group) is the central exchange used to trade dairy products. The Futures/Options links show the current real-time market conditions for all dairy products traded on the exchange. A Spot Call price shows the current cash price the product is being traded at. The Cash Settled Butter contract is a contract in which no physical delivery of the product takes place, and settlement is based on the USDA monthly weighted average price of butter in the United States. A Deliverable Non-Fat Dry Milk contract requires that actual physical delivery of the product must be made during the specified contract month.
