USDA May Consider Two-Year Extension for Farm Bill
Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer said the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) may recommend a two-year extension to the current Farm Bill if Congress passes a bill that President George Bush would be unwilling to sign, the Dow Jones Newswire reported last week. According to the newswire, Schafer believes that legislators and the administration still are far apart on farm subsidy reforms and two years would provide a better timeframe if a long-term extension is needed. The current extension is set to expire April 18. To read the article, click here.
