Member Reps Join Tipton, Yonkers on Ag Trade Advisory Committees
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) recently announced appointments to the Agricultural Policy Advisory Committee for Trade (APAC) and to six Agricultural Technical Advisory Committees for Trade (ATACs). IDFA President and CEO Connie Tipton was reappointed to the APAC and Chief Economist Bob Yonkers was reappointed to the ATAC for Animals and Animal Products.
Joining Yonkers on the ATAC for Animals and Animal Products are Mark Davis, CEO, Davisco Foods International Inc., and Neal Schuman, president, Arthur Schuman, Inc. Ken Roberts, director of international business relations, Kraft Foods, received an appointment to the ATAC for Processed Foods. Alfred Hensler, director, commercial, Mars Snackfood US, and Ken Lorenze, director, sugar and cocoa, Kraft Foods N.A., Inc., were appointed to the ATAC for Trade in Sweeteners.
These private sector committees meet several times a year to provide USDA and USTR with information and advice on U.S. agricultural trade policy.
"We are pleased that several IDFA member companies will be represented on these committees," said Tipton. "Participating as advisors is an excellent way for dairy processors to provide their trade priorities to U.S. trade negotiators."
The agricultural trade advisory committee system was developed in 1974 to ensure that trade policy and negotiation objectives would reflect U.S. commercial and economic interests. The APAC provides advice on overall policy objectives regarding agricultural trade issues. The six ATACs offer more detailed technical advice on specific commodities: animal and animal products; fruits and vegetables; grains, feed and oilseeds; processed foods; sweeteners and sweetener products; and cotton, peanuts, planting seeds and tobacco.
Each appointed member will serve through May 2012. For the full rosters of the seven committees, click here.
