House Ag Committee Begins Farm Bill Mark-up Tomorrow

The U.S. House of Representatives Agriculture Committee, chaired by Collin Peterson (D-MN), will begin its mark-up of the Farm Bill this week, aiming for floor action next week. IDFA is deeply concerned by proposals announced last week by Chairman Peterson on the dairy title, which substantially alter the policies approved May 24 by the Livestock, Dairy & Poultry Subcommittee. IDFA is calling on House Agriculture Committee members to respect the work of the subcommittee and reject these new dairy provisions. "This is a real disappointment as we have been trying to work with the chairman to take advantage of the ripe opportunity to make dairy policy more progressive and effective for both farmers and manufacturers," said IDFA President and CEO Connie Tipton.
