Energy Loans and Grants Available from USDA

Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns last week announced that $176.5 million in loan guarantees and $11.4 million in grants are available to agricultural producers and small businesses, including milk and dairy product manufacturers, that want to invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements. To qualify for consideration, projects should be located in a rural area, which is defined as any area other than cities or towns with a population over 50,000. Businesses must meet the Small Business Administration's small business size standards to be eligible. Grant applications must be submitted to the appropriate U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development state office and postmarked by May 18. The deadline for loan applications and combination loan-and-grant applications is July 2. For more information, click here.
