House Agriculture Committee Announces Assignments for Subcommittee on Dairy

The U.S. House of Representatives Agriculture Committee last week announced its selection of chairmen and member assignments for six subcommittees, including the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry. Rep. Leonard Boswell (D-IA) was named the chairman of this subcommittee, and Rep. Robin Hayes (R-NC) is the ranking member.

Majority members of the subcommittee are Rep. Joe Baca (D-CA), Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D-CA), Rep. Jim Costa (D-CA), Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-IN), Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Rep. Tim Holden (D-PA), Rep. Steve Kagen (D-WI), Rep. Nick Lampson (D-TX), and Rep. Tim Mahoney (D-FL).

Minority members of the subcommittee are: Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX), Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Rep. Steve King (R-IA), Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH), Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE), Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) and Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) as an ex-officio member.

The new House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D-MN) recently made the decision to return oversight of dairy issues to this subcommittee. With this change, the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry now has jurisdiction over livestock, dairy, poultry, meat, seafood and seafood products; inspection, marketing and promotion of these products; aquaculture; animal welfare; and grazing. During the previous Congress, the House Subcommittee on Oversight had responsibility for dairy issues.

The announcement of subcommittee members follows the release earlier this year of the names of members who were selected for the House Committee on Agriculture and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. Full committee lists are available at www.agriculture.house.gov and www.agriculture.senate.gov.
