IDFA Promotes Allen Sayler to Vice President of Regulatory Affairs
(Washington, D.C. May 29, 2007) The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) is pleased to announce the promotion of Allen Sayler to IDFA vice president of regulatory affairs and international standards. Sayler's primary responsibilities at IDFA cover a broad range of state, federal and international regulatory matters, including National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipments (NCIMS) issues related to the Grade A program, the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety system and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Plant Survey and Manufacturing Milk program.

Sayler joined IDFA in 1997 as director of regulatory affairs, responsible for domestic and international dairy regulations and standards. He was promoted to senior director in 2005. In each of these positions, he has worked with members and government officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and USDA to protect the safety of the domestic food supply and to establish or improve regulatory standards involving the dairy industry.
Before joining IDFA, Sayler was senior milk sanitation officer and acting branch chief during his four-year tenure with FDA, and spent two years as a milk marketing specialist with USDA. He began his regulatory career working on domestic dairy regulatory and standards issues, and served for 10 years as assistant dairy commissioner for the North Dakota Department of Agriculture.
Active in many industry organizations, Sayler currently chairs the Standing Committee of Food Additives for the International Dairy Federation (IDF), and leads the committee in developing the international dairy community's official positions on food additive issues under review by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. He has been involved in IDF and Codex issues since 1996.
Sayler also serves on two NCIMS committees, the HACCP Implementation Committee and the Aseptic Implementation Committee, and has served on many past NCIMS committees that successfully completed their work. He has received Group Excellence Awards from FDA and USDA for his contributions to drug residue strategies, dairy HACCP pilot work, and for developing a European Union certification program for dairy products.
Sayler grew up on a dairy farm in central North Dakota. He holds a B.S. degree in biology from the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.
