Search Begins for the
2005 Innovative Dairy Farmer of the Year

Washington, D.C., (July 26, 2004) — Nominations are now being accepted for the title of the Innovative Dairy Farmer of the Year, an annual award co-sponsored by the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and Dairy Today magazine. The winner of this year's award will be honored at the 2005 Dairy Forum, January 9-12, at the Disney Yacht & Beach Club in Orlando, Fla. The deadline for nominations is Friday, September 24, 2004.

The call asks for nominations of active U.S. dairy farms that, through their adoption of management practices and production technologies, have improved economic efficiency and milk quality, and have demonstrated innovative approaches to milk marketing. Nominees will be judged on current cost-effective methods and their positioning for future growth and success.

This year's award recipient will be chosen through a formal judging process that will include agriculture economists, former award winners and Dairy Today editorial staff. The winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2005 Dairy Forum, including recognition during a special ceremony at the program's opening session. Dairy Forum is widely recognized as the most important processor/producer conference of the year for the dairy industry.

In addition, the winning operation will be highlighted in a feature story in the January 2005 issue of Dairy Today.

This year marks the seventh annual competition for this award. The 2004 titleholder is C Bar M Dairy, Jerome, Idaho, nominated by Glanbia Foods, Twin Falls, Idaho. Other previous winners are Mason Dixon Farms, Gettysburg, Pa., in 1999; Clauss Dairy Farms, Hilmar, Calif., in 2000; Baldwin Dairy/Emerald Dairy, Emerald, Wis., in 2001; Si-Ellen Farms, Jerome, Idaho, in 2002; and Pagel's Ponderosa Dairy, Kewaunee, Wis., in 2003.

There is no fee to submit a nomination. For the complete award criteria and a nomination form, click here for a nomination form. (.pdf) Questions can be directed to Tanika Manning at IDFA, 202/220-3557, tmanning@idfa.org.
