Call for Nominations: IDFA's Dairy Plant Safety Awards
New Awards Launched in Conjunction with Plant Operations Conference
(Washington, D.C.) Nominations are now being accepted for IDFA's Domestic Safety Recognition Awards, a new program to honor U.S. dairy processing facilities for excellent worker safety performance. Award winners will be announced during IDFA's annual Plant Operations Conference, held this year on May 4-5 in Chicago. Entries for the 2004 awards are due into IDFA by March 31.
"Worker safety is a top industry priority, so it's fitting to recognize dairy plants that are excelling in this goal," said Clay Detlefsen, IDFA vice president of regulatory affairs. "We encourage our members to nominate their facilities in this competition."
Nominated facilities will be judged on specific data required by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on the facility's "Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses" report (OSHA Form 300A). Employers are required to post their OSHA 300A forms from February 1 through April 30 each year.
Facilities will be judged in four product categories: natural and processed cheese; dry, condensed and evaporated products; ice cream and frozen desserts; and fluid milk. Within each product category are awards for small, medium and large facilities that achieve the best overall safety performance rates based on the OSHA data.
There is no fee to submit a nomination. For complete details and a nomination form, click here (.pdf). For more information, contact Clay Detlefsen at cdetlefsen@idfa.org, 202/220-3554.
