    Consumer Protection, Taxpayer Groups and Small Business Trade Associations Urge USDA to Review Federal Milk Marketing Orders

    Consumer protection organizations, taxpayer watchdog groups and small business trade associations joined national and state-based small business associations in commenting on whether there is continued need for the Federal Milk Marketing Order system. The groups said because the federal orders are designed to raise the price of milk, they have a negative effect on the income and food benefits of federal food program recipients and they raise taxpayer costs of government feeding programs that include milk.

    IDFA Supports Bipartisan TPA Legislation; Urges Quick Passage

    IDFA applauded the introduction today of the “Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015,” bipartisan legislation to modernize and renew Trade Promotion Authority (TPA). This legislation would help open the door to new markets for U.S. goods and services, boost U.S. economic growth and support well-paying U.S. jobs. "TPA is key to making sure the U.S. dairy industry gets the best possible outcomes in trade agreements, and we strongly encourage Congress and the President to work together to enact it as soon as possible," said Connie Tipton, IDFA president and CEO.

    Bakery Treats and Wild Berries Top Trends in Annual Ice Cream Flavor Contest

    German Chocolate Cake, Black Raspberry Krunch Sundae and Hawaiian Wedding Cake Ice Cream were named the most innovative ice cream flavors at IDFA's Innovative Ice Cream Flavor Competition last week in St. Petersburg, Fla. The competition, which showcases the creativity of U.S. ice cream and frozen dessert makers, is a popular part of IDFA’s annual Ice Cream Technology Conference.

    Congress Seeks a Positive Market-Access Outcome for U.S. Dairy in Pacific Trade Pact

    The dairy industry praised the more than 75 House members who have urged the Obama Administration to negotiate a strong market-access outcome for the U.S. dairy industry in the Pacific Rim trade agreement. Led by the co-chairs of the Congressional Dairy Farmer Caucus, the House members sent a bipartisan letter to U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, saying Canadian and Japanese dairy market barriers must be addressed in any final Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement to allow more U.S. dairy exports.

    The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), the Food Processing Suppliers Association (FPSA) and NürnbergMesse today announced that the show floor of the co-located PROCESS EXPO, International Dairy Show and InterBev Process has exceeded 300,000 net square feet and continues to grow. To date, over 800 exhibitors have signed up to exhibit at the Mega-Event taking place September 15-18, 2015 in Chicago's McCormick Place.

    IDFA Applauds Introduction of the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act

    IDFA has joined with others to urge Congress to quickly pass proposed legislation that will create a national, science-based labeling standard for foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act, introduced today by a bipartisan group of lawmakers led by Representatives Mike Pompeo (R-KS) and G.K Butterfield (D-NC), will ensure labeling decisions are established by science-based, uniform standards that are consistent in every grocery store in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
