Consumers’ demand for more information about their food combined with federal government’s new mandates for on-pack information are revolutionizing food labeling. While the labeling discussion has traditionally focused on on-pack information, some food companies are also shifting to digital disclosure systems that can provide consumers with information on hundreds of attributes at the touch of a button. What will this mean for the future of product labeling?

A panel of senior executives from The Hershey Company, PeaPod and The Kraft Heinz Company will address attendees of ProFood Tech in Chicago, sharing their insights regarding on-pack labeling and digital disclosure systems and responding to other major changes ahead for food companies. The session, called “The Food Labeling Revolution,” will be held as a part of the ProFood Tech conference program on April 5, 8:45-9:30 a.m.

Panelists for the session include Deborah Arcoleo, director of product transparency of The Hershey Company; Thomas Parkinson, founder, senior vice president and chief technology officer of Peapod; and Jackie Schulz, nutrition lead of The Kraft Heinz Company.

Panelists

Deborah Arcoleo is responsible for leading The Hershey Company’s cross-functional efforts to meet consumers’ and other audiences’ demands for product information and to provide them with transparent, accurate and timely information. She has played a leadership role for the past several years in Hershey’s work to bring shoppers comprehensive product information through quick response (QR) codes on its packaging.

Thomas Parkinson and his brother pioneered the online grocery delivery concept, Peapod, 28 years ago, creating the first e-commerce company in the world and becoming the largest e-grocer in the U.S. He is responsible for Peapod’s web and mobile product development, information technology infrastructure, supply chain systems, and research and development efforts.

Jackie Schultz is the head of nutrition for The Kraft Heinz Company, specializing in product development, nutrition communications, food and nutrition policy and regulations, and pediatric nutrition.

The panel will be moderated by Sean McBride, founder and principal of DSM Strategic Communications, who also was a senior executive at the Grocery Manufacturers Association, the American Beverage Association and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
