USDA Set to Announce Proposed Rule on Dairy Import Assessment

May 18, 2009

IDFA has learned that the U.S. Department of Agriculture will post in tomorrow's Federal Register a notice of proposed rulemaking regarding dairy import assessments. The proposed rule supports the 2008 Farm Bill mandate to implement a dairy import assessment of 7.5 cents per hundredweight of milk on imported dairy products. IDFA opposes the assessment, viewing it as unfair tax that could provoke retaliation among international trading partners. Look for more details in next week's News Update.
