Legislators Introduce Bipartisan Food Safety Proposal

Representatives Jim Costa (D-CA) and Adam Putnam (R-FL) last week introduced the bipartisan Safe Food Enforcement, Assessment, Standards and Targeting Act, known as the Safe FEAST Act of 2008. The proposal, which is designed to improve, modernize and strengthen our nation’s food safety system, is a step in the right direction and acceptable to the dairy industry, according to IDFA Senior Vice President Jerry Slominski. "We commend the sponsors of this bill for improving on the more prescriptive bills, such as one that has been drafted by Chairman John Dingell of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, currently being considered by Congress," Slominski said. Because the issue is receiving considerable attention from lawmakers, IDFA is closely monitoring several food safety bills. To read the press release, click here.
