Tipton Extols Benefits of Flavored Milk in Letter to Congress

Concerned that the proposal to tax flavored milk might resurface in the U.S House of Representatives and Senate, IDFA President and CEO Connie Tipton corresponded today with all 535 members of Congress, outlining the importance of flavored milk for student nutrition. She cited the American Heart Association's position that sugar added to nutrient rich food has no adverse effects on weight.

"Recent research, to be presented at the American Dietetics Association's upcoming conference, found that removing flavored milk from schools resulted in up to a 62 percent reduction in milk consumption, depending upon grade," Tipton wrote. She included a fact sheet on flavored milk in the mailing.
